Overview:
This two-day course will introduce participants to the latest in GIS technology, features and functionality. Participants learn the latest techniques in creating and editing GIS data, querying and analyzing information to support daily decision-making and special projects. This course covers content including: how to query databases; edit both spatial and attribute data; work with tabular information; and create graphs, charts and reports. Participants will leave with a solid knowledge of the workings of GIS.

Course Goals:

  • Understand basic GIS terms
  • What’s new in ArcGIS for Desktop 10
  • Editing GIS data
  • Querying features using logical expressions
  • Using spatial relationships to find features
  • Associating data with table joins and relates

  • What’s new in ArcGIS for Desktop 10 interface
  • Data types, data models and relationships
  • Managing data using ArcCatalog, including using metadata
  • Editing in ArcGIS for Desktop 10
  • Symbolizing data
  • Analyzing data: selects, identifies, buffers and identifies>
  • Map outputs: reports, plots, charts and graphs…
  • Labeling and Annotation
     


Prerequisites and Recommendations:
A general understanding of computers and the Windows environment is required, however no GIS experience is needed.

Cost:
$600 Per Student (Includes materials and lunch.)

This course is for those who have a basic understanding of geographic information systems.
