Mobile LiDAR Uses

by Cindy on April 30, 2014

Mobile LiDAR has many uses in today’s market.  Mobile LiDAR is a way to collect data at roadway speeds for projects like airport runways, roadways, corridor projects, asset management projects, GIS mapping, and campus sites.

Mobile LiDAR can be used for a 5 mile roadway project to a county wide sign project.  Clients are finding this data very useful in many ways.  For example, one project we collected data for the entire town.  They needed the sewer manholes and inlets extracted for their GIS.  Now if they need curbs, signs, street lights, fire hydrants, or any other visible feature within the path driven, it will only be the office time to extract the data.   A return trip to the site is not needed unless new construction happens.

Mobile LiDAR collects point could data along with digital photos that can be used by the client or during the QA/QC process of the project.  This data can also be integrated with terrestrial and aerial LiDAR.
